British beauty is a curious, contradictory thing. On the one hand you’ve got the delicate English Rose, with her petal-pink cheeks and an all-round prettiness befitting of a Jane Austen novel. Hello, Keira Knightley. On the other, there are the messy-haired it girls partying up a smudgy-eyed storm on the party circuits. Call it the Kate Moss school of beauty. At the Marchesa show – a highlight of London Fashion Week, which kicked off over the weekend – these two types of Brit beauties seemed to merge as one, with this fancy festival look, showcased on an English it girl who happens to strike the perfect balance between rock and chic – Georgia May Jagger: MarchesaSS15Beauty

Makeup artist Gucci Westman was indeed inspired by Kate Moss. Cue darkly lined eyes to add an edge of cool. Using Revlon, Westman flicked black liquid liner thickly over the lids, and softly smudged black pigment along the lower lashline and inner rims. But from here, everything else looked as English Rose as a bonneted Bennet sister: creamy foundation mixed with a little illuminiser, a dab of berry cream blush (Photoready Crème Blush in Charmed), and a touch of rosy-brown lipstick (Super Lustrous Lipstick in Blushing Mauve).

Over in the hair department, Mark Hampton, global ambassador for TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe, created a free-spirited festival-style ‘do, with loose, laidback waves. It looked carefree and cool, but as with the makeup, the base was immaculately chic: a smooth blow-dry, using TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe Glamour 3D Volumiser. Once hair was in smooth and shiny condition, Hampton messed it all up again – in the nicest possible way, using a large tong on mid-sized uneven section, and one final blast from the hairdryer to loosen up the waves. Oh, and the final finishing touch? Flowers in the hair, of course.   Tell us, Primpers, do you like this look? Who’s your British beauty inspiration?
